Effective leaders need many qualities but those who seek to make meaningful change and solve complex problems with competing interests must have the ability to absorb criticism, even unfair or vicious criticism without becoming discouraged or distracted. Effective change agents don’t take criticism personally, even when it is highly personal, because they are more concerned with achieving their goals than protecting their egos.
