WORTH SEEING: Poster Before you Speak – THINK T – is it True H – is it Helpful I – does it Inspire confidence N – is it Necessary K – is it Kind – Adapted by Michael Josephson from unknown original source.
I am working with a Middle School in Ohio on a bullying project. They are using T.H.I.N.K as part of their campaign, including a film they are creating.
An organization called mygirltalk.org is claiming to have some trademark or copyright in THINK. I think they’re being bullies themselves and I see no baasis for it. Seeing how you adopted THINK to a poster, I was wondering if you had any insights into the origin of this phrase. Thanks so much! Rick Alimonti
I do not know the origin. I know we did not invent it but I have seen it many times without attribution and have concluded it is in the public domain. If this company truly has a trademark they will have official papers indicating that. You should ask for a copy.
This quote orignated with Socrates and is known as Socrates’s sieve.
His version is truthful, helpful, kind or necessary, and the inspiring has been added.
